NH Girl Gets $35k From McDonalds For Tea Burn
November 08, 2009 20:17 PM
BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) -- An Exeter girl is collecting $35,000 from McDonald's restaurant after receiving second degree burns after hot tea spilled in her lap.
The New Hampshire Union Leader said court documents indicate a loose fitting cover that wasn't properly attached to the cup by a restaurant employee was to blame for the burn.
Lawyers said the 14-year-old girl was with her mother and brother at a McDonald's drive-through in West Lebanon on Aug. 26, 2006 when she was burned on about 3 percent of her body.
Documents said the burns were serious enough that she was treated at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon and she required three follow up visits.
The girl's lawyer declined to provide her name because she is a minor.
